Thanks again for all your kind comments, i know i still have a long way to go to get everything right and the crtique is certainly helping me to spot my errors, so thank you.

Baffled: they are two flash units that are fired via a trigger on my camera. They are on full power then reduced and reduced maybe again till I got the right light without overexposing areas.
The idea is the camera settings stay the same and you alter the output of the flash manualy rather than the camera telling you what you are going to get. I hope this has helped, if you need more info I would be glad to help again.

Ps loved the idea behind your photo and was a contender, great originality

Wow - didn't mean to insult the peas My only memory of mushy peas is from a footballl match nearly 30 years ago now...cold along with the pork pie...and Berwick Rangers lost (cue football insults...for the record I 'supported' them for about 3 matches as a kid - they lost them all and I found other things to do!)

Thank you for the critiques this week.

Chris/Ogga, unfortunately the fossils are in just one corner of the flagstone and I set the camera as close to the edges to get as much in view as possible. The actual fossils are probably less than .5mm thick and looking at the stone in general, I guess it was pure luck that the flag cleaved in that place to reveal such fine natural details.

Well what a disaster from start to finish! I think I've guaranteed myself never to win again with the shambolic way this comp turned out and yet.....

Most entries for a long time, lots of voters and LOTS of chat and scandal! Also now lots of critiquing and positive feedback and learning going on. Maybe it wasn't such a disaster after all!

Firstly my apologies to those photos not displaying correctly in the poll. I didn't notice until just now as i've been so busy at work. I prepped the html on Sun night and only changed the url's for those who had altered/reposted their pics. For some reason on those three images the code did indeed come out "funny" must have been related to the wireless broadband dongle I was using for my internet connection. (I have no internet at work!) Again apologies for the error and for not spotting and fixing it!

Congratulations to Cutter on a well deserved win. I was really torn between three images - Cutters vices, DD's Bolly and SieSmith Potrait Technique. As Cutter had already walked off with the prize and someone had shown their appreciation for Sie's effort I felt DD also desrved to get a vote. I liked the image right away. For me it really popped with colour and sharpness and I liked the arrangement and the slightly reluctant message too. Well done!

Above: Portrait technique.
Really loved the lighting in this image and as i've said it made it into my top three because of how you've caught the light in both eyes. A very pleasing image.

Below: Photohsop elements frustration
Loved the sentiment in this image - especially with the PP palaver. If it was a commercial shot with a big budget I guess you Would have gone for the real destruction which instead you had to hint at in a very subtle way. I thought it was a well conveyed sentiment but somehow lacked impact. As I say other than the impact being real and physical I have no idea how else you could have conveyed it! Anyone....?

I disagree a bit of confusion and controversy and a minor issue with the images, the admin of doing one of these is not intuitive nor straight forward so there is plenty room for error so I think personally you did a cracking job myself and I am sure others will agree. With regards to the controversy on PP I fully understand why you imposed restrictions, this is something that rears it's head from time to time so I think you were a bit unfortunate there, I really hope it will not stop you putting the effort you do in to the competition or discourage you from entering.

With regards to the Photoshop elements frustration as someone else said a bit of movement in the foot could have highlighted the laptops impending doom

Aw thanks MuckyBoy - I thought it was one of, if not the best photo I have taken so far since getting my DSLR. I really took my time planning it out and playing with different arrangements, lenses, positions etc. But as soon as we saw Cutter's, Ithink we all knew we were beaten!
