Improving?

Encouraged by your comments, I gave it another go and turned it into a B&W picture. Any better this way?
(And thank you all for your critiques)

Yes super, luv it , it gives it a more contrasty look. But most of all do you prefer it ?

Hi, It is much better without the brown leaves, which were distracting. Great shot. John

It was almost a black and white shot from the start, and I must agree with those of you who suggested a 'total' black and white version. It makes sense and I like the end result.

Of course I don't mind! I'll try out your suggestions and see what I end up with.
As you say, you live and learn, and having someone else looking at your pictures with a critical eye is very useful. I'm desperately trying to improve my 'eye' and techniques.

(I live in cloud cuckoo land with a husband - bless him - who finds almost every picture I show him beautiful, and friends who only take snapshots and agree with him.)

Anything for an easy life!

The easy answer to the question, is this photo OK, is if you have captured what you saw and what you wanted to show was correct. Answer yes to those questions then the photo is OK, but may need slight adjustments to bring out the best in the image. Sometimes, I take a photo as a record that may not be perfect due to light levels, but it's OK as I captured what I wanted.

Thanks OldBoy. I do take photographs just to 'remember' things/people/situations, but the pictures I have placed on this site are different. Or at least I hope they are. I hope to be able (in the future) to take pictures that are pleasing to look at for people other than those in my circle of friends. With good compositions and technically adequate (at least). And then hopefully progress (if at all possible) to shots that stop people in their tracks! And all of that with a relatively simple camera.

Had a go at that and posted the result in a different thread. (Coronation Walk.)
