Unhappy EoS 350D standard lense let down..

Hi all ive just joined and have a novice question.. i have the 350D with standard lense and its all abit hit and miss, results vary all the time, now ive read 100's of forum post with people saying the standard lense is awful and others who claim the opposite. I take alot of family pics and would like to know a sub £100 lense that will do the job and have the ability to zoom further than the end of my nose, as my daughters christmas play pics have her being no more than a spec in a sea of specs and i wasnt even 30ft away. Thanks in advance

you'll be lucky; there aren't many sub £100 lenses full stop.

the only sub £100 zoom lenses I can see on www.camerapricebuster.co.uk are the

Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD £99
Tamron 28-80mm f3.5-5.6 £89
Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD £99

whether these are any good I have no idea as I've never used one.

I had the Tamron 70-300mm, it's shocking, I paid £104 for mine, and ended up selling it for £30!

If you only have £100 to spend, and you want a further reach than 55mm, forget it. You'd just be wasting money.

However, you can pick up a highly recommended used Canon 55-250mm with IS for around £150. You get such a good lens for the money, it's not perfect, but you won't be disappointed. I was only disappointed that I sold mine with a 500D, wish I'd kept it as a lightweight spare.

I have used (and still own a 350D which is a backup camera for my 40D) and like you when I started out found the kit lens very limited. I bought a Sigma DG Macro Zoom 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 (filter 62mm) which I found to be a very sharp and versatile lens, worth looking at, price on Amazon : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sigma-28-300...2149772&sr=1-1

if you want a sub 100 quid lens and don't mind second hand you should put one of these on your consideration list

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

iv'e just watched one sell for less than 60 quid considering their F4 straight through i think there an absolute bargain

i actually owned one with a 350d a while ago and the results were good

example
