As I have mentioned elsewhere on these forums, I don't have a TV - and even if I did, I don't think I would be watching Coronation Street!

Phil,

If you are quick, you can get the 32Gb WiFi iPad from http://www.johnlewis.com/231016327/Product.aspx - they only have 1 left though. Else they have 4 of the 32Gb WiFi 3G version http://www.johnlewis.com/231016330/Product.aspx

You don't have to take out a 3G contract at the time of purchase, and with the WiFi only version you can purchase a separate MiFi dongle (http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/MiFi), which will give you 3G when you are out/away from a WiFi hotspot. Using MiFi you pay for the data received over the 3G network and not the £10 per month rental that you would pay with a 3G sim card that goes into the side of the iPad.

I forgot to add that I don't work for John Lewis, and whilst they aren't the cheapest, I like their ethos of sharing their profits with their workers and the company paying tax in the UK. (I'll now get off my soapbox).

HTH

Nick

What do you mean? We get Top Gear

Thanks Nick,
I'll check it out. I certainly like the sound of the MiFi

LOL! Top Gear - yes, BBC Canada has it on four times a day, every day. Which obviously means they are going to be a few years old. While they're good fun (once), I don't want to see what was exciting Jeremy Clarkson seven years ago!
The most 'cutting edge' channel in Ontario is the public broadcasting one, TVO..... they put on fairly recent documentaries from the UK and don't have adverts! They also have an annual 'Photography Month' with all the shows they can collect on the subject.

I have to say that the only American import to the UK I have any time for is 'American Hotrod'. Brilliant programme and those guys are true artists.

Can I just get back to chatting about Coronation Street? People are quick to mock it, but it is the longest running TV show ever...what does that tell you? It's easy watching, good to relax on an evening with a cuppa and corrie, to unwind and let you forget your problems. They give actors a chance to really get their teeth into something, decent storylines etc. The actors have done an amazing job, oscar winning performances both pre shot and live. Plus its English through and through. We should be proud of it, it's home grown and gives actors, crew etc excellent experience to spread there wings and learn the ropes...so c'mon you guys, just cos it's not your cup of tea, don't dis it...............There, nuff said!!!!!!!! 3 cheers for corrie, hip hip........

Documentary on CBC (Canada) last night about how popular Corrie is here.... there are Corrie clubs all over the place, people who get together in large groups just to chat about the show and be part of the 'club'. Lots of ex-pats, of course, but plenty of others who are glued to it (it seems to be on most nights of the week, plus an omnibus edition on Sundays). I rather lost the plot when Elsie Tanner went - though I can't remember how she got written out.

I think Canada's about nine months behind the storyline.

What DOES it tell us?

And isn't there one actor, who's been in the series from the start, playing the same role for half a century ... He obviously hasn't spread his wings; still learning the ropes I suppose.
