Opening RAW Files in ACR

Hello all,

I'm unable to open my RAW files.

I have launched Bridge, left clicked and there is no option to open in Camera Raw.

Also the option in the file menu is greyed out so no joy there.

Any pointers?

I should also add that I can open JPG's in Camera Raw, just not my actual RAW files.

Hi Orbster,
What camera are you using and what version of Adobe Camera Raw?
ACR does not automatically recognise all camera's and all raw formats. If your camera is newer than your version of ACR then there is a good chance ACR needs updating.

You need to make sure it is compatible with your version of CS or Lightroom version. If you uncompress it and run the updater .exe file, it should install automatically for you.

I've got cs4 extended so it should be compatible.

I've tried running the file but it's still not working.

Did it install correctly? Which version of ACR did you download? My version is camera_raw_6_3 but it is a zip file, not a rar file, did you download it from Adobe?

1. ACR 6.3 is not compatible with CS4.

2. The latest ACR compatible with CS4 is ACR 5.7

3. ACR 5.7 is available for manual download from here.

4. Read the installation instructions very carefully.

5. I've never heard of ACR updates being compressed in a WinRAR format - Adobe always uses ZIP. However, a great tool for decompressing any archive format (and compressing in seven types) is 7Zip - free download here. It's a very handy little program.

Geoff is right about 6.3 not being compatible with CS4. Nikon D5000 is compatible with ACR 5.4 with Photoshop CS4. The 6.3 update is only to add two more of the Nikon camera range for CS5 - the D3100 and D7000 See list here:http://blog.gerardprins.com/pdf/Niko...ibility_en.pdf

Updates are generally to add new camera support to the list and seldom have any other benefits. It's best to always check with Adobe before updating anything.
