I am sorry to hear that , Mark. But is everything alright now? Photography is great for distraction because you can lose yourself in it for hours without realising the time! :-)

Firstly,Karen you are very brave, sorry for your bad experience but congratulations on turning the corner.
Secondly,I just love taking photos.I have recently returned to photography after a long break due to life-work;family;commitments etc(or is that life???).For me, it is my memories of people;places;scenery;weather anything actually. These are things I wanted to photograph for my reasons and my enjoyment. If other people take enjoyment from my photos then I am flattered.I originally had a Fujica STX 1N 35mm film camera and then progressed to compact and bridge cameras but missed the control of an slr,so I bought an EOS 450d about two years ago and have been experimenting since. But I have to admit,I take photos for myself primarily(maybe I'm selfish).

Keep on snappin'

I take photographs because I can't paint or draw. So it's the easiest route towards satisfying the artistic bent in me.

PS. Sorry to hear of your experience Karen. However, as you say, it lead you into photography. That will put feeling into your images if nothing else will.

Well I would like to be able to paint, but a paint brush in my mitts does it own thing. First given a camera at 7 years of a age a 126 kodak instamatic by my gran from then on I fell love with photography and its a medium you never can master. Only you can adapt to the challenges of light, locations and getting it right in camera.

My normal question is " What the hell did I take that picture for?"
