Britain's Trillion Pound Horror Story

Actually, the title sounds a little more positive than things really are. In fact its a staggering £4.8 Trillion that this nation currently owes to international banks, which equates to £77k that each and every one of us will be required to pay back. As the government continues to increase public spending this figure will continue to increase, as well as the interest that accumulates on that debt, spirals ever higher.

In case you missed it, here is the link to Channel 4's documentary. Its a real eye opener and shows just how the British Government is wasting OUR money and how their ever expanding size by creation of public sector jobs is destroying this nation and its economy.

Its not all doom and gloom though, as there is a solution - and no, it doesn't involve hanging all the members of parliament and their predecessors by the neck until they are dead, although it would be a very nice gesture on their part

Enjoy!

This is made by the guy who produced 'The Great Global Warming Swindle', which was just a bunch of opinionated right wing B*****ks. Here's a summary:

The trillion pound debt program was a mouthpiece for extreme right wing economists or wags to sput their nutty nonsense. Members of the Adam Smtih Institute giving their opinons...good grief!

Did anyone take this seriously?

I don't quite understand how pointing out that the massive amount of government borrowing and spending in recent decades, increased taxation making this country uncompetitive in the world market, killing off our manufacturing industry resulting in the highest levels of unemployment and saddling us all with nearly £5 trillion of debt is somehow the rantings of right wing economic extremists??

What arguements in the program did you find nutty nonsense exactly?? It'd be interesting to debate the actual points raised in the documentary, rather than attack the messenger, as all to often happens.

Interesting. Not only is Durkin a socialist but GGWS contained 4 factual errors when first broadcast, which were corrected before the DVD was released.

Al Gore's (thank heavens he invented the internet so this can be pointed out) Inconvenient Truth contained 35 factual errors and significant misrepresentations, none of which have ever been addressed, and has been judged by the High Court to be a grossly misleading political polemic containing 9 'significant' factual errors. You could make a long list out of the logical fallacies it contains. So I'll see your 4, and raise you 31. Or if you think some of these are a bit tenuous, try 5

Guess which film the government makes your children watch . .

No doubt by pointing out that the whole Global Warming, sorry, Climate Change, sorry Global Climate Disruption (I think that's what it's called this week) thing is nothing more than bunch of convenient lies is not going to endear me to you Chris. I have to admit that the propaganda job (something like $60bn spent so far) being done on AGW is quite overwhelming if you are susceptible to it. It's pretty relentless. As Goebbels said "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it . . . ."

It's not a good idea to take things at face value. When I was 14 I read Silent Spring and believed it. It was not until I was in my forties that I began to realise that actually hardly any of it was even close to true.

I usually have a lot of time for Ben Goldacre, and informed debunkers in general, but for some reason his tests for what constitute total junk seem to have deserted him when it comes to the gross statistical fraud involved in promulgating AGW. Maybe he's just trying to hide the decline . ., or maybe just keep his job at the Grauniad.

Er . . does the programme take into account that Britain now has to bail out Ireland as well?
