I've used a lot of sites with galleries and this has to be the worst which seeing as the fact most of the site is about images is really poor. I can only echo what has been said above but no, you're doing nothing wrong, I went into your gallery and saw all the thumbnails which all looked of good quality but with so many to go through I'm afraid I didn't

As was mentioned before if you are looking for specific comments or crit maybe it would be better to purposely post 1 image in the crit section for people to look at, I think you have more chance of getting a response that way and specific feedback.

I'm not sure this site is any worse to the others I've used in terms of photos in galleries.

Where it does seem worse is ironic given that the advise seems to be to post photos in the forums for comment, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of response to a fair proportion of photo posts, lots seem to have 0, 1 or 2 comments.

There are no comments in any of the photo forums today. Mind you, there aren't that many photos posted, to be fair, perhaps it's a chicken & egg situation.

Maybe people should try posting more photos & making sure for every photo they post, they comment on at least one other person's photo?

That's the Flickr approach. When you get an invite to add your picture to a group you find that if you do, you are requested to comment on 1,2 or perhaps three of the images that are already on there. I used to do that years ago but quickly found myself commenting on a load of dross just to comply. The other drawback was that you soon found yourself entering a mutual backslapping exercise commenting on someone's images out of politeness just because they had commented on yours.

That was the only drawback on the old DCM site.

Let's face it, how many comments do you see on the POTD, very rarely gets into double figures, and most of those are of the WOW, Fantastic etc. variety, with very little explanation of why it is liked. Technical Tim, how often have you commented on POTD?

Abers,

maybe that's a function of the way people use the website. Personally, I only use the forums therefore I wouldn't see or seek out the galleries or POTD etc.

I prefer the interactive element & will comment on shots being discussed in the forums & not in the static galleries. That's just my approach.
I agree regarding the mutual back-slapping though. I prefer constructive crit rather than 'nice shot' & try to at least say what I like or dislike about the shot if I have the time.

I've looked at www.1x.com and they have very tight controls. You have to upload an image (only 1 per week on the free account) and this has to be approved before it goes live on the site. You can upload the image, but you can't ask for it to be reviewed until you've left critique for at least 3 other images. As Abers mentions, this leads to the temptation to enter some dross just to get your own feedback which kind of defeats the object (and I would always wonder if the comments were sincere of compliance dross). So far, I have 1 image on their and it's not been looked at yet as I find their system even more time consuming than PR's.

I think there may be a veiled compliment for this site in there somewhere

And Cathus, totally agree - while it's nice to get 'nice shot' comments, I also like to get the 'what if you'd tried this' or 'I don't like XYZ and think you could have ABC'd to get a better...' kind of comments.
