Don McCullin

Bath is the place to be sometime during the next couple of months.

Got to take some pictures down to the RPS, makes it all worthwhile.

Saw this exhbition in Manchester during the summer and it was fantastic. He photographs mostly landscape these days I think because of the horrors he witnessed and I am not sure if its true or not but a camera apparantly saved his life when a bullet became lodged in it instead of him!

Thanks ABERS! I'm off to see this exhibition at lunch time today! I love Don McCullin's work, it is very raw and gritty - it really shows the brutality of conflict without being vulgar about it. If you like McCullin, you'll probably also like Philip Jones Griffiths, who also did some fantastic Vietnam images.

I saw this exhibition in Manchester too, it was spectacular.

I'll be interested to see how the exhibition layout/space is different in Bath... when I eventually get round to visiting it in one of my lunch hours that is....

Oh it is definitely worth a second trip, Amy.

I went this lunch time and thought it was utterly awe-inspiring! It was great to read about the different periods of his life, see his cameras and view the photographs. It was interesting to read about what you've been saying Karen, about him being so traumatised by war that he just wants to shoot landscapes and travel. Anyone got a spare £3000 I can borrow for a print please?

I've got a strong urge to go out and photograph on Ilford 125 again too...

I know what you mean, Carly. I was in the darkroom doing some film work yesterday and although I do love digital there is something really nice about film and the whole process that makes you feel more involved.

I also think so.
