Great to see that this type of photography has a spot within the site. It's a genre that has long been a passion and interest for me from the early days with Picture Post and Bert Hardy, continuing with James Ravillious, Phillip Jones Griffiths and two giants Elliot Erwitt and Don McCullin, all well worth a Google. All their pictures tell a story.
Just because a picture is taken on the street doesn't make it "street photography". All too often I try my hand at it and it becomes a miserable failure, just an image of a person or a group of people just being there. No interaction with each other or their surroundings, no story from their demeanour or expression, just people on the street. I think the same can be said for the Documentary side of things, James Ravillious was a master at this.
Have a look at defreesmudge on filickr each of her images of moments caught that tells a story, especially her portfolio on the Appleby Horse Fair.
Another street/documentary photographer that I see regularly in and around London is David Trainer. He doesn't have a web site but his work can be seen at

I only quote these people because their work epitomises for me what current street/documentary photography is all about. Unfortunately I don't think we will ever see their work here because of the grossly one sided T&C's.
Apologies for not providing workable links, but I can't get the hang of the system here on Photoradar.
