Thumbs down What is wrong with this site

Today the site has been absolute rubbish. Haven't been able to get on to the site as IE has been unable to locate it and when I have got on it is like wading through mud to move from page to page. Then when I try and add an image to a link all I get is a little red cross in a box.

I think it's called a YoYo site, as it's up and down all the time.

I suspect its where so many people are connecting to the website to check on the POTY 2010 competition, its exceeding the amount of connections available, causing many people to just time out and the page fails to load. I've had trouble getting on here all day, as well as last night.

That would be my guess as well.

I had the same problem. Maybe that's why the new POTY results have not been posted!

Hi all,

Sorry for the late response to this. The site's been running slow because we're clearly very popular! We've been seeing a lot of increased traffic due to the POTY competition. We also had a technical problem over the weekend, which should be resolved, but we're continuing to monitor the situation.

Thanks for you patience.

If you know that your site is going to be overloaded with last-minute entries and everyone jumping on it because of POTY, can you not be proactive and do something about it? By the way, it happens every year! Expect the next crash on +- 30 November or the first few days in December when the POTY winners are revealed.

Regarding the popularity of the site, er, the most users on the site ties in with the POTY competition. Normally there are no more than 50 or so registered users and a handful of guests on the site at any one time.

Thanks for your post, Stormsong, With regards to users on the site at any one time, you aren't taking the entire site into account.
