I bought the Sigma f4.5-5.6 after reading a review in another magazine. They tested it against all of the other lenses in it's class including the f3.5 and they concluded that it was the best in the class, better than it's stablemate, the Nikon and the Canon.

Thanks for everyones replies. With my budget I think I've settled on the Sigma f4.5-5.6. I've recently moved to Australia and found that camera stuff seems to be cheaper (everything else is more expensive than England). This site is very cheap, but worryingly so. It works out at about £280. Thoughts on whether its legit?

Apparently its cheap because it is a grey market import. Does anybody have any experience of these? This is what nikon think. http://www.nikon.com.au/pagearticle....=65-52b9b66212

But they do offer warranty. And the savings are substantial!

Hi,

It was Digital Photo Magazine May 2010 issue.

Here is a link to a page on their website, though not the full review:-

mmm that doesnt say its top of the group and better than the Nikon 10-24, Digital CAMERA mag gave the Nikon best in group a few issues ago- still like to see a group test showing the Sigma is better overall and I'll buy it

No, unfortunately the link is not the full review but the magazine article did cover all of the main lenses in the ultra wide angle zooms. Again, I suppose that any testing is subject to the vagaries of the testers preferences and the tests that they undertake so different people will come up with different conclusions.

yes I fully agree with you there Steve, I just havent seen one favouring the sigma over the Nikon, I'd love to find one as the Nikon is over £600 and the sigma waaayyy cheaper so I'd rather have the sigma but just need a little assurance from these 'experts' out there

Yeah, know what you mean. I took a good while to decide what I was going to do and that article did sway me. And either the Nikon or the Sigma, it is a lot of money to spend.

I would have arranged to send you a copy if I still had it but I ditch the ads and gear reviews from my magazines when I have finished with them to try to save storage space.
