Image Storage

Can anyone help me please! When I try to store images under a specific file name it just places them under my files that are stored and not in them. I then have to transfer them into the appropriate file. This has just started to happen and I think I must have done something to my camera settings but I cant see what, My camera is a Nikon D40. Any help gratefully received. Regards. Silversurfer.

You're confusing Files with Folders. Think of Folders.... and to put a file into a folder you need that folder open. So, for example, if you went to 'Save' and gave a filename, you need to check which folder is open. You may be looking at, for example, "My Pictures", which should contain lots of folders, perhaps by date or some other naming system. You need to open the right one.

Hmmm, just re-reading the question..... are you talking about initial uploading of pictures from camera to computer? If you are, you'd better tell us which program you are using.

Hi Geoff, Sorry I didnt explain things very well, I Connect my camea via the USB cable, switch on the camera , my images appear on the screen and it asks me where I want to put them. I go into "My Pictures" Then locate the folder ie: my grandaughters name as an example to add images to ones that are already there.I have a Kodak Easyshare program which Ialso use for my Kodak digital camera and have not had any problems with it before.

Right, well it seems that you should be able to select an individual sub-folder of My Pictures..... perhaps you didn't actually open a folder when selecting destination.

You don't need to open the folder just select it so it's highlighted. It's nothing to do with the camera but Windows which decides on which folder to open based on the last time you used this facility. So, for example, if you had two folder called Folder 1 and Folder 2, and you last used Folder 2 to store your pictures then, windows will open this folder next time to put any photos in. If you want to put them in Folder 1, then you need to select that instead of Folder 2 before you save the files.
