Yeah, but thats no different to any other camera that costs less than £1000.
This is from an EOS 50D at ISO 6400
This is from a Pentax K20D at ISO 6400

Even the mighty Canon EOS 7D isn't immune from noise at ISO 6400
I don't think you can expect miracles. These are all cleaner and less grainy than ISO 1600 film (although the chroma noise is different, obviously). Sony aren't lagging behind in noise reduction at the moment.
In fact, Sony have released more cameras, lenses and new technology in the past 12-18 months than any other mainstream DSLR maker I can think of. Frankly, at the moment they're putting Canon & Nikon to shame in many respects.
