Arrow any other gimp users?

despite the unfortunate name i've been using the gimp for many years. started using it at first because it was the only decent editor for linux (which i'm an avid fan of)...now i use it because it's free and powerful. links well with ufraw too.
anyone else like it's approach to things? or maybe digikam? or shofoto?

first time i've used photoradar although i've been a subscriber to digital camera magazine for years...good to say hello!

Yes, I've tried it a couple of times but got really confused with it. If I'd used it before I'd got used to the techniques of Photoshop Elements it would probably all seem very simple. I wanted to see how GIMP handled 16-bit images - I understand that it can work very well with them but the difference in the program's features and layout had me scratching my head...... I suppose if I'd bought it I'd have persevered!

I tried to use the Gimp. Just could not stand the entire interface. I am a Linux fan, I am also a Linux Systems Administrator, but I had to use Elements on my Mac.

yeah the interface can be quite unwieldy to the uninitiated...even now i occasionally have to hunt for a feature i don't use often.
i still do this when i (very seldom) sit in front of photoshop though if i used windows i'd maybe be saving my pennies for lightroom 3. the gimp is very powerful if you can live with it's quirks and don't use 'must have' plugins in another app. shame that ubuntu's now dropped it in favour of f-spot as it's default 'editor'.
there's a nice collection of scripts at the gimp plugin registry if anyone's intersted in giving the beast another try...they add some nice functionality if you find one that fits your needs.
anyway...thanks for your replies people...guess i'm flying the flag alone for the moment.

As far as Ubuntu goes, they only dropped it to fit other stuff on the install CD. It is still supported in the repositories.

yeah i know...just think it's a shame that it's not installed by default...lots of newbies will not use the software centre never mind issue an 'aptitude install'
