Problem with Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro

Hi All

I have the above lens and just recently the AF seems to be going a bit awry

The last couple of times I have taken it out (Airshow and Wildlife Park) my shots are not "pin-sharp"

I have set my Nikon D5000 to AF-A and even upping the shutter speed to 1/320 still does not help

It does only seem to be at the longer end of the zoom, ie, 200-300 mm

Is it possible that the lens is giving up the ghost or am I just missing something really silly & basic

Many thanks

If you have previously had good results and things are worse then I guess it could be a fault .

Rather than allowing the camera to auto choose I nearly always select the centre or an individual focussing point (I use a canon but that shouldn't matter .

1/320 is ok but I would aim for higher if you can (not sure it's an image stabilised lens )even if it means upping the ISO better a sharp shot with a bit of noise than a blurred one .

Best bet would be to set camera up on a tripod use self timer and shoot a static subject (pin a sheet of newspaper up inside or shoot maybe a brick wall outside .

Finally I would try comparing manually focussed images with auto focussed ones .

I too have had a problem with this lens but not with the focus. My partner & i both purchased this lens & within 12mths both had stopped working. He uses a Canon 40D & I use a Canon 450D. Both lenses started giving 101 error messages about the same time. Sent them to be repaired & it was going to cost nearly as much to have that done as to buy a replacement lens. Tried to have the repairs done under warranty but they claimed that both lens had been mistreated/dropped so problem was not covered by warranty. There's no way that we had caused damage to these lenses. If you follow that senario then it would mean all our lenses were being mistreated so all of them should be damaged & not working.

Hope you contested that, as they say that to avoid doing it under warranty. As a last resort go to trading standards or CAB for advice.
