Sigma 70-300 DG Macro with extension tubes?

Hi Everyone!

I have a sigma 70-300 DG Macro and was wondering if the use of extension tubes would improve my close up / macro work?

At the moment i cant afford any macro lenses so this will have to do, when i flick the switch for the 200-300 macro on my lens its not bad but i just want more!!

Im also looking at getting the Canon 50mm f1.8, would this be better suited to work with the exension tubes as opposed to the above lens?

Any help you can give on this would be great!

N Ross

Yes, you'd get greater magnification with the 50 + EF25 converter than you would with a 70-300 + EF25 as shorter focal length lenses generally gain more.

It's been a while since I read anything on this, but IIRC the calculation is:

(extension tube length / lens focal length) + original lens max magnification. So for a Canon 50 1.8 + EF25 it would be:

(25/50) + 0.15 = 0.65x magnification
