memory card for 500d

Hoepefully a simple question.
I want to get some additional cards for the 500d what speed should I get to make best use of the camera? I do not want to spend money on a card that is faster than useable by the EOS 500D but similarly I do not want to have the Camera delayed by using to low a spec.
Most of my photography is landscapes and portraits rather than action and I do not tend to use the movie function.

You won't slow the camera down unless you're shooting continuously. I've got a Sandisk Ultra II and Extreme III card of the same capacity and the ONLY difference is that I can shoot slightly more continuous frames with the Extreme III.

Either of those should be fine. Check out 7 Day Shop for some very cheap ones...

scan disk ultra 11 and 111 user here.they both cope with the 6.5 frames per second burst rate on a Canon 50 d .

I tend to get 4 gig cards and use several rather than rely on a large card that could fail.

I do the same but I use 2GB cards. I still get 134 RAW files on each which seems to suit me. At least if I loose or damage one, or one corrupts I've not lost everything...

I use 16Gb sandisk extreme III's with my MkIII - not for speed in the camera as card speed doesn't make a lot of difference - unless your camera supports UDMA which the III doesn't

But pulling the images off the card onto the computer with a decent card reader, them a fast card is very useful.

The Extreme range is worth having - but if you are on a budget, Ultra will suffice, particularly as landscapes don't move much, write speeds are not so crucial...

I use 8 GB Class 6 cards. Mostly because I buy them on sale I have a bunch of Core Micro cards, they have been good for me.
