Tripod head advice

Basically, the Calumet tipod legs and head I have at the moment is rubbish.

Head-wise you really have to work to tighten up the pan and tilt levers and, once it's locked into place, the camera actually rotates around the quick release plate (which I've tried to remedy with several methods none of which work).
Leg wise, the legs have a habit of collapsing back into themselves regardless of any adjustments I make to the locking levers.

So, I'm after a new tripod (legs and head) and I think I'm pretty much sorted when it comes to the legs (Giottos MTL 9361 B). I can't afford carbon fibre legs (and for the miniscule weight savings you get can't see the point in the extra price) and I want at least 3kg worth of support.

But every time I look at heads I keep changing my mind. I'd pretty much decided on the Giottos MH1301-652 ball head but came across a pretty good deal on the Manfrotto MG 460 head. It only supports 3kg (but thats enough for me) but I can't find much in the way of reviews from people who have actually used it.

Has anyone here got one or used one?

reviews from 11 users .I have a manfrotto tripod and head and am more than happy .I got the resin head which happily supports the 50 d and 100 to 400 that weighs nearly 5 kg.

Hi Matt

I'd seen those and I was more after a "proper" (for want of a better word) review. User reviews are fine to an extent but to paraphrase Francis Bacon, people are more likely to report a positive view than a negative...
