Photo web site

I am looking for advise tips regarding photo on-line storage, or web site where I could upload my photos to.
I want something easy to work with but with enough flexibility to structure the site for my own needs. For example an area for family shots and a general area available to anyone. Also to be able control the look of the site.

With the help of a friend I am playing around with a site via Hostgator.com so I have an domain name, but if I want to change any of the look of the site I need to ask my mate. Also I want to avoid people having to give their email address or details to a 3rd party to gain access, such as with Flicker.

I have had a look via google and of course there are loads of options, so I thought I would ask for advice here first.
Thanks for any help or advice

I don't think it is so much a daft question as a fairly strange one in these days of good cheap EHDD storage. Along with my new computer which has a 500 gig hard drive, I have a 350 gig and 500 gig external hard drives.

There is plenty of choice and preferences of make for under 60 quid these days. My latest 500 gig from Western Digital measures 5"x3"x1/2" as opposed to my older 350 gig which is the size of a hard-back novel. You could easily have a couple of the smaller ones on the go and when you are ready, store it at a different location. It has got to be cheaper than storing high res images on line surely?

Ah,
I see now I have asked the question in the wrong way.

I was looking for advice, tips or preferences regarding photo sites for sharing photos, so friends and so can see them.
Sites such as Flickr or Pbase where I had a bit more control on how the whole thing looks and people did not have to give their email to look.

Oh by the way your London - A view from the bridge is a great shot.

I have only just seen your question and it's a shame you have had such little response, there are times I think this forum is grinding to a halt.I won't touch on EHD storage as this has been done already. I will however share my experience of Flickr with you.
For some years I have had a site with, at first, public access and in recent years Friends and Family. While open to the public I received a fair number of comments from those I know and complete strangers. When it changed to Friends and Family only they gradually stopped looking at it. Just recently my grandaughter has set up a site to share family photos as we research the family's ancestry. Time will tell if the family use it!
The big drawback as I see it is that folk are generally too busy (or lazy) to obtain Yahoo id's and passwords and access a site which is not "theirs" They'll browse an open site and use tags etc to find items of interest, or they'll look at a collection if a link is provided, but it will die a death if too restricted.
I haven't attempted to start a web site, cost is one factor, how will people know about it is another. Quite possibly these comments are of no assistance whatsoever but it seemed a shame for no-one to comment further.
Good luck
Dagwood
