Why so many elements techniques, I want Photoshop!

It seems that your articles in your more recent editions that explain techniques keep using Elements to show how to do it rather than photoshop.

I know that some users may not have photoshop due cost reasons etc, but I'm finding it more frustrating that the magazine is using the more basic elements instead of Photoshop, as at the end of the day photoshop allows for a greater set of techniques for you to demonstrate, and its what both newbies and advanced users really need to learn about.

Elements although a good bit of software, is not really worth spending the time of as anyone who takes the hobby further, or becomes professional will need to understand Photoshop.

I read the magazine to both learn new things, but as I have been into photography for some time now also to enhance my skills on the more advanced side of things. Showing how to turn an image to black and white in elements is pointless and a waste of valuable magazine space, showing how to do it the many ways in Photoshop is far more useful.

Can you please drop the elements or at least limit it to just a couple of basic techniques please.

Regards

James

I would bet real money that a large majority of the readers use Elements and not Photoshop. It is quite simple, you give your largest audience what they want.

I'd like to see a survey on that one . . . I think you would be surprised at the results. There are many, many thousands of illegal copies of Photoshop out there in circulation.

This really is a stupid thread.....Elements represents an outstanding value for money editing program. Photoshop is so expensive as to be the realm of the rich or the professional. As most of us fall well below these ideals, Elements is essential. If you don't like it join another MORE PROFESSIONAL forum........if you can find one as good!!

Hi
Calm calm calm calm down! As Harry Enfield used to say

We've found most readers use Elements but this is kind of an old debate as we are redesigning the magazine from issue 101 (onsale 29th June). In the new look mag will be a Photoshop beginners section, which uses Elements, and a more advanced section, using CS. Hopefully this will keep everyone happy

That's proably a very true observation - makes you wonder how happy Adobe would be to see a magazine use that as justification for a change of emphasis? There again, using the same argument as Corporallouis, how many illegal copies of Elements might there be out there??
Dagwood
ps It would be intersting to see how many copies of each including CS have been sold - I wonder if this or any other magazine has that data?

You don't really belive that do you Geoff, you'll just have the users of a bootleg copy of CS who have never used it for more than cropping saying they are to complicated and proficiant users of Elements saying they are to simple!

I agree with Oly Paul...... I often drop into the Photoshop Support Group in Flickr and I'm constantly amazed by the questions from "CS4 Users" etc asking about how to resize, how to crop, how to add a texture, how to do basic things. I'm sure a lot of new photographers have asked 'experts' about "which is the best editing software" and have been told, "Oh, you must have Photoshop CS - all the best people use it". The question they should be asking is, "What's the most suitable software for me?" The truthful answer would be either Elements or PaintShopPro (which, IMHO, currently has the edge on Elements..... yet doesn't get a mention here.)

I think the original question in this thread is redundant - CS is professional software, so if you want simple video tutorials for it, perhaps you've got the wrong program. Yes, there are many 'serious' photo editors who will tell you it's "essential"..... sorry, not convinced about that.

Without wishing to drag this into a flaming game, I notice the OP has no pictures in the PhotoRadar gallery and this was his first post. Must be an expert, then.

I have to agree with Geoffwessex. Good points all around. I could have access to PS CS. In fact I have a "copy", but I purchased Elements because it is all I need. I have an add on for curves, so I am good to go.
