Nikon Batteries

Hi there,

I have a D70,D80 and a D90. Sometimes a few weeks go by without me using the D70 and D80.

Is it bad practice to keep the battery in the camera for long periods of time, and can I
recharge the EN-EL3 and EN-EL3e batteries when they are not completely drained?

Thanks

Trudi

Hi Trudi

I've seen advice previously that you should take batteries out of cameras if they're not being used for a long time in case they leak but I've never done it myself (and I've never had a battery leak or develop any other faults).

The EN-EL3e batteries can certainly be charged if they're not completely empty with no deleterious effects. I routinely charge mine when there is still some charge left in them. The D90 (and possibly the others but I don't know) has a "battery age" and "condition" indicator on the battery info screen which will tell you if the batteries are getting a little tired, at which point they might not hold their charge for as long.
