Harsh Sunlight

Hi everyone,

I am doing the photography at a wedding one of these days under extreme sunny conditions. It will be a mid morning wedding at a venue with hardly any shade. I plan to use some fill-in flash. I have not had a lot of success photographing people in direct sun.

Can someone please suggest a good technique to use in harsh sunlight.

I will appreciate any suggestions

Thanks

not done it myself but why not try using a diffuser to soften the light. It would need a willing assistant to hold .

I'd would go to the location, a few days before the wedding, to check where the sun will be in the sky at the time you'll be taking your photographs and find the best places where you can position people for your various shots. Pay attention to where best to position yourself to take the shots too. It might be helpful to take someone with you and capture a few test shots and analyse your results. If you need to make any adjustments, you can do so at that point, because on the day you won't get that luxury. It's a case of just doing a bit of preparation until your happy with what you've captured.

Thanks for the advice Matt and Ian, I will take an assistant, with a diffuser, on the day, and I am going to visit the venue to scout the area for the best places to position people.

I read some informative technique articles on Fill flash an Depth of field. I think it will be hard to get good DOF under those conditions. Maybe I must try to convince the couple that we move somewhere else for the bride and groom shots.

Keep well

Trudi
