Question Insurance for your equipment?

I am imminently off to Indiaon a photo shoot and although I haven't got my cameras and lenses insured at the moment, I wondered if I should.

I have had them insured in the past, when the replacement costs were a lot lower, and it still cost an arm and a leg.

But now, well it would cost around £350 according to the insurance form in EOS magazine.

Now I have managed in the past because I don't let me camera bag out of my sight, and it is too heavy to grab and run off with.

Has anyone any inexpensive companies thye could suggest.

Estimated replacement cost around £10,000 today, if I include most of my stuff.

Regards Becky

Wink Insurance

I have my gear on the house insurance its ten times less valuable than yours I would try some of the companys advertised in the Magazines or search on line for a reasonable quote, they quoted me roughly equal or just above what I paid for contents insurance as I had at that time, one year ago.
Personaly I would insure that value of gear for a trip overseas, good luck with the photo shoot, safe journey and return, hope to see your pictures when you return

I'll say this to you, I was in palermo, Sicily not a really long time ago, I was only there to carry some parts for work, the bonus was that I got a bit of time to have a walk about.

I was MEGA careful the whole day. and I stopped for a cold drink on a very hot day.

I thought that the bag was safe between my legs, never out of my sight. What was out of my sight as I was on the phone was the scooter that came across the front of me the pillion hanging over, who very cleanly and very surely picked up the bag and away.

I had 2 DSLRs (50D + 350D), 3 Lenses, 1 Flash gun, bunch of other accessories. more than £2.7k all in... all in a lowepro Fastpak250 - not a small or light bag in anyway.

I thought that I was insured through the work. I wasn't.

I'm very thankful for Direct Line's assistance in clearing everything through the house insurance, But I wouldn't want to do that way again. I wont travel again without the proper insurance.

If it is not work and you are not a pro then home insurance. Nat West cover me as long not out of UK for over 31 days and no one item is over £2500 .
