Rating & Critique My Images

http://www.photoradar.com/files/imag...et20dec09r.jpg
I have uploaded five images to Photoradar in recent months and had only two comments one of which has disappeared.
I put them there for feedback and would really appreciate any I can get.
The link above will take anyone interested to my lastest image.

Regards and best wishes to all,

Ken Hay

Hi Ken

For what it's worth, a lot of regular posters on the forums dont spend ages going through the galleries as many people find them awkward to use. I would suggest posting an image and asking for C&C that way.

Hi Ken....For what it's worth I liked the image very much, good colour and saturation. It seems a shame that more people don't comment or rate shots in the user galleries as you would think thats why people download them after all.I am in no way an expert or professional but it only takes a couple of minutes to comment on an image that catches the eye and i remember how chuffed and encouraged I felt when it happened to me.All the best and keep up posting those shots you are proud of!

Alright Ken
I suggest you join a Camera Club as you are wasting your time here if you expect people to take the time to critique your work. I have commented on countless images and only a handful have taken the time to return the gesture. If you join this site from the standpoint that most Photographers are selfish arseholes you may survive the disappointment. I am having my profile deleted and will visit this site from time to time as a guest for the advice and instructional videos and nothing more.

This bone of contention rolls on and on. As ChrisP says the galleries aren't condusive to prolonged searching due to the small thumbnails that they use. Also the pages are clogged up with posters putting in a whole stream of imgages. If you look at the first two pages today two posters have put 13 images each on those pages.

This of course doesn't mean that it should stop you from commenting, hoiwever a continued stream of 'sameness' tends to put you off.

I've always advocated a daily/weekly limit on the number of images any person should be able to post, that may make them more selective in what they show to the public at large. However the excuse used against such a restriction is, people may not have the time to post them individually and they must be allowed to post as many images as they like.

Just because you take the trouble to comment it doesn't mean those commented on should return the compliment. That renders the whole excercise useless.

However you only have to look at the POTD to see the malaise in its glory. Very few comments appear there, and most of them are by the staff/admin.

Enjoy the forums, you may learn something to help you in your endeavours. Good luck and enjoy your photography and.....

P.S When you've seen one sunset/sunrise you've seen 'em all.

Firstly I must say I have visited your site and the body and standard of your work is outstanding, and I think in part your answer here reflects this, as you really don't need any encouragement and advice as your work clearly shows. However I don't agree with your point that just because you take the time to comment on someones work that they should comment on yours, granted they don't have to but wouldn't you say at the very least it's just good form or better still good manners.

Frank.

Firstly, thank you for your kind remarks.

It is important that when beginning you receive encouragement and support, I received mine in my early days in a photographic club, and still do. I think your suggestion in your earlier post is spot on. There you get close, in depth considered assessment of your work, with no punches pulled. Most clubs have various levels of expertise from beginners groups through to advanced workers, and all are learning all the time.

One danger I feel is that if you are not careful you can become a photographer that takes pictures to please judges not to please yourself. Don't become a 'club photographer' but a photographer that belongs to a club.
