Whatever the outcome I have to say that for me personally this has been one of the most rewarding weekend competitions ever. Thanks ogga for coming up with the theme which, whilst on the face of it should have been quite simple, has however, turned out to be anything but. This will be my first entry having used the Canon 7D (all other entries have been with the SX1 IS), plus the first use ever of the recently purchased Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM. I cannot begin to describe how pleased I am with this 'nifty fifty' and cannot recommend it highly enough. Now comes the difficult part - deciding which of the 300+ images shot today to submit. Oh decisions, decisions - think I'll sleep on it.

300 of those snow pictures you did earlier in the thread. be interesting to see what the 7d and 1.4 lens adds to the dof
Be good to see what the sigma produces as I have been tempted at times myself to go for it. Despite the negative press sigma get for QC issues I have to say that the 3 I own - 10-20, 105 macro and 70-200 are all really good and sharp. I get a sharper image at 85mm 2.8 on my siggy 70-200 than I do with my Nikon 85mm at 2.8 which staggers me. Not much in it but just shades it and the siggy is fully open at that. Just hard to justify the 50 when I already have a wonderful nikon 1.8 50mm.
I`m not even in the thinking about the theme mode yet - thinking cap on! I`m guessing with mothers day there will be a lot of flower shots and already got one of those this morning.

I'm going to the market tomorrow morning armed with camera, so might get something different then.

As for Siggy's, the only one I've got is the 10-20; at best I would mark it as 'OK' - distinctly soft around the edges at all f stops towards infinity.

As for 50s, I have acquired two second hand what with my diminutive budget; an absolutely superb all manual Chinon PK f1.7 (eBay £12) and a rather nice FA 50mm f1.4 (also eBay, but this is allegedly the third best prime lens ever made, so it was a significantly more than £12, don't tell Mrs H). Using them is just the joy of having a decent prime lens on the end of the camera.

As for a 70-200 f2.8, that's a long way off, but I have nearly saved up enough for a Tamron 90 macro, which will no doubt be regularly deployed hereabouts when it finally gets bought.

Meanwhile, looking for inspiration jinky? It''s been a long time since we had a picture of your Sunday roast entered . .

I don`t even remember a sunday roast - was thinking of a take on the "not just food...Marks and Spencers angle though.Maybe do a food shot and mess around with lighting in the absence of processing this week which is a nice aspect ogga for a change. Never get any votes for food shots but challenging to get light right when not just using natural.
My 10-20 rocks H - unlucky Mind you I might have lower standards than you- I have lower standards than most people come to think of it

Well I went to the market this morning and got what I thought would be a decent entry - a picture of the back of a hippy van covered in graffiti. Trouble is that some of the said graffiti is swear words, and although I will post it on flickr later, it wouldn't be suitable for this site or competition, so I am stuck with my earlier effort. As with last weekend I am not especially happy with it, but it'll have to do.

I see Mark is sticking his big nose into things again.

Just a quick note to say why I had to withdrew my first entry. The theme was posted on Thursday and I got so excited i did a shot straight away, then realised it was to soon for the weekend competition. Oh I can be such a cheat sometimes
Hope to get mine in soon, but got a few to choose from, it was going to be a yettis footprint but forseti got there first
My Cheat entry:

The inspiration for this entry came from that 1968 classic road movie 'Girl On A Motorcycle' starring Marianne Faithfull. Her motorcycle of course was a Harley Davidson but what the heck.

This was an early contender but I just couldn't get a high enough shutter speed resulting in a somewhat less than sharp image - especially around the brake pipes.
