As far as I'm concerned I've found that Blurb gives excellent service and quality and I am pleased with the final product. Whilst their bookstore provides facility to sell your book I think you must remember they are in the business of printing and producing, it's really up to you if you are setting out to makle a 'fortune'.

My first effort on Speakers' Corner has to date sold close to three figures, but that has tailed off in the past four months. Pricing is always a problem. People will spend a few quid but it depends on what their photographic priorities are, and books, unless they are the 'How to do it' type are low on their list.

The latest effort is really for me, but that shouldn't stop people deciding to buy it in their thousands! However I'm certainly not going to flog around the local bookstores and any other outlets.

I love photographic books and have a small library of them, I suppose I buy a dozen a year, so when visitors have a look through my bookshelves it's a surprise for them to spot one by Abercrombie! There's two of such there now.

Just a reminder

As this site doesn't seem to have gained the volume of viewers hoped by the owners - I don't think this error in judgement will open up the flood gates of self advertising - we are already being subjected to enough "paid for" adverts without having more of the" look at my site and buy mine" postings - and the admin's encouragement of this can only lead to more of the same - is that really what we want this site reduced to ? - well!?!?!? Is it ????? - What do the real users of this site think?? ---- Or are there really so few of us left - that it makes little difference - one way or the other. -

Hi Gil,

Can I ask why you think the site hasn't gained the volume of users Future projected and where you came by this (incorrect) information?

As I've said before, PhotoRadar is a free photography website and to be able to facilitate this (and bring in revenue for Future, which is a business) we need to run adverts.

Going back to your first point, if we weren't getting a lot of traffic, we simply wouldn't get the advertising.

We stand by our earlier post - we'll encourage anyone who's published a book (or done anything else worth shouting about) to talk about it on the forums, with others who maybe interested in taking a look.

Rach

You certainly can - only too glad to reply - natural observation of the way the forums are going - you only need to look at the lack of response - to this thread and many other threads across the forum - take the blinkers off Rachael - get back to the real world - my "observations are NOT "incorrect" - prove me wrong.

As I've said before, PhotoRadar is a free photography website and to be able to facilitate this (and bring in revenue for Future, which is a business) we need to run adverts.

I totally agree - keep it "free" - keep the "paid" adverts - I have NEVER complained about them - they are indeed needed - it's these unpaid for "spam" adverts that need stopping.

Going back to your first point, if we weren't getting a lot of traffic, we simply wouldn't get the advertising.

But will you keep getting the advertising revenues - if the traffic dries up - as I still maintain it is - despite your efforts to deny this. ?

We stand by our earlier post - we'll encourage anyone who's published a book (or done anything else worth shouting about) to talk about it on the forums, with others who maybe interested in taking a look.

Stand or Fall !?!? - you have made the decisions - and you are entitle to make them - it is your job to do so - after all said and done - but don't expect me or likeminded members to like them.

Rach
Please don't think I am trying to "scupper" the site - I do so dearly wish it to succeed and become the top photographic site - that it still could be - provided the many suggested improvements are implimented - but these must come soon - or I reitterate - I fear the worse.

Still a loyal site member.

Gil

Despite my pessimistic views on its future - I only make these views known - in the hope that things will improve and thus enable the site to progress rather than regress .
