Macro on Canon 17-85 lens

I have the kit 17-85 lens and was thinking about getting the Canon 100mm macro. I notice the 17-85 has macro on the side of the lens how much better/closer will the 100mm be?

The 100 gives you up to 1 to 1 ratio i.e the image is recorded at life size .

the term macro on the zoom is totally misleading .

The 100 canon macro is fantastic .Until you use it you would not believe it .

Google the lens and look for images taken with it.
