Can I suggest that the rules are written up into a single posting with a sticky - after any final clarifications - for example - Should it be made clearer regarding imageing equipment? - As I automatically assume using a digital camera where light passes through a lens; while as it stands some may read the proposed rules differently

I'll have a go at creating a codified set of rules tomorrow after I've done the shopping - it strikes me that this is the thread where the discussion should take place - sorry I forgot it was here.

Here's a copy of the post I have just put in the Golden Oldies chat thread, in case people are looking in two different places at this debate:

It seems to me that the problem is one of clarity - if we all know what we should and shouldn't do.

IMHO the amount of work that Forseti did on her picture amounts to the creation of something new and distinct from the original, but I quite understand why opinions will differ on this. I also agree with Flakes observation about all elements being taken during the weekend of the competition. I actually spent some of Saturday (OK 5 minutes) taking pictures of bits of stone and concrete walls on the off chance that I might need an overlay of some kind.

I've got a busy day today, and I am sure there will be more views aired.

So far though I think I need to add
1) anyone can take part in the competition
2) anyone can and should vote, not just the competition entrants
3) don't vote for your own entry
4) ALL of the elements of any composite images or montages must be taken during the weekend competition window - ie Friday to Sunday
5) Entries need to contain a significant proportion of original work - this is to be judged by the voting

OK, get you teeth into that, tell me what I've missed and what is still open to debate.

And to echo jinky the voting was a difficult choice this week. But somehow I managed to make a choice . .

Howard,
Perhaps there needs to be some mention in respect of Copyright etc., - All entries must comply with the Terms & Conditions of the PhotoRadar web site.?

Re; Item4 - If the matter of using textures is stopping potential entries then let those who wish to use them do so and perhaps those who wish too, can state which elements in their pictures are within the alotted time frame

To set up the new threads for the coming weekend, I do need a set of rules. I've tried to combine what has been discussed - what do you think ?

I would very much like to add that it would be good to see a short desciption of how the shot was done. a) because people may not be clear on bits of PS (textures, frames whatever) which are allowed or not (edit - I don't mean that we would disqualify someone, but just to make things transparent) and b) because it's interesting. I think this would be helpful for the voters.

Any comments/suggestions ?

1. To be valid images must be taken on the Fri,Sat,Sun of the competition, that is during Friday Saturday and Sunday in your time zone. ALL of the elements of any composite images or montages must be taken during the weekend competition window.

2. The subject must be set so that no one, will be excluded by limit of location, environment or equipment etc.

3. Anyone can take part in the competition and anyone can and should vote, not just the competition entrants

3. Generally there are no limits Post processing, unless the subject setter has specified basic adjustments only. Basic adjustments would be Levels brightness and sharpness etc. There is no restriction on equipment that can be used.

4. Images submitted after 12:00 UK time on the Monday may not be included as the poll thread must be set up. The poll runs for 2 days from the posting of the poll so that it generally ends mid day Wednesday.

5. The winner must set the new topic before Friday to give entrants time to think of ideas and get ready for the shoot, the competition starts on Friday, no images taken before that time are valid and will not be included in the poll.

6. The winner is then responsible for starting the Chat thread, Entry thread, and setting and managing the poll

7. Voters may not vote on their own image, the poll is set as open so you can see who appreciated your work.
