I have to agree it is a great piece of kit especially at the price.
IMO it beats the cable and IR releases hands down.
I looked at the upgraded version on the link you posted and to be honest the only difference appears to be the shape of the transmitter and receiver. All the functions seem the same.

Hi all, been busy since Christmas.I got a present of a Hahnel wirless remote. It works off radio frequency so can trigger through obstacles and can be triggered at distances of over twenty feet! Only tried it a few times so far but touch wood,so far so good.

Hi Cutter, can't comment on the 50D as I have a 450D.On the 450D the receiver sits on the hot shoe and a small cable plugs into a jack plug on the side of the camera. No other adjustments required.

That depends. If you use the Hahnel model that I mentioned earlier in this thread then a half press of the devices shutter release button is like half pressing the shutter button on the camera i.e. it focuses the lens. If you have used the 'custom functions' on the camera to set let's say the AF ON button to activate focus then this will need to be reset. You could of course still use use the AF ON button to pre-focus on something and then still use the remote release. An example of this might be that you have set up your camera outside a Badgers set, you set the focus at the exit and then hide some distance away only using the remote control to fire the shutter. Other than that, no, there's no special settings required on the camera.

Having read about remote release I was never given anything to attach to the camera to recieve, only the hand button to press ( should I have been given a reciever to plug in ?

Cutter - it would help a lot if you were able to post links to the actual products that you ordered. Anything that you order online read first whether it's the correct model for your 50D. If buying directly from a shop take the camera with you and try it out first.

By hand button I take it you mean the transmitter? Um - without a receiver...........need I say more?
