But I'd throroughly recommend the APO version http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-...a-fit/p1011618 @ £178.99 as it is much better on the CA (Chromatic Aberration) front due to being APO

Edit: you do need to be close to get frame filling shots of smaller birds. I guess I'm about 3 metres away for both the above

Thanks so much for the help ! I can't wait to get my lense I will go for the Sony 70-300mm and I will hopefully be able to get some good shots of the wildlife round here! Hopefully will be able to get one within the month so I can also get the 50 cash back from Sony so the lens would be 125 which I think is a very good price for it new
