Great shot cosmicma love to know what settings you used and how far away from the bird you were. (sorry if i should not aske this question here)

If you use Firefox you can get a plugin to allow viewing of exif data:

the question is a perfectly valid one which i will try to answer

the settings i used go as follows

canon 50d and a sigma 170 - 500 lens
shutter speed = 1/400 second
apeture = f5.6
iso = 100
focal lengh = 425mm
auto exposure
auto white balance
apeture priority ( av )
metering mode = pattern
focal area = centre focusing
focus method = AI focusing
no flash

the distance at a guess 15ft no more than 20ft

to extract the EXIF information from a photo ( as long as it has been preserved ) i use a freeware program called photome it's a pretty extensive program and is well worth a look
