I've been to both these beautiful countries and the one thing i wish i'd brought with me was a good portrait lens! the local people make for amazing portraits! whatever you do, don't leave your 50mm at home! it weighs next to nothing so you could sacrifice carrying one sock in order to take that with you.
Have you an itinery of where you are going in these countries? I love it out there!
I had a 75-300 lens with me and found that i used that the least!
