No reason you cannot use it. Normally for landscapes you want a very wide angle (or perhaps a narrow telelphoto view as well) with a small aperature so that everything is in focus. The nifty 50 is most useful for low light because of the f/1.8 and for the bokeh effect.

I may have a landscape or two taken with one. I once only used my 50 for a month.
