I know I put on an earlier post my budget was £1000, but if I could get what I've asked for for half that! I'd be happier. There's no point spending large amounts if I can get decent pictures from budget lens.

There's no point spending
anything on a lens you won't use. No point buying a 50mm f/1.4 if you want to shoot BIF. No point buying a 600mm f/4 for portraits, or macro. Use what you have, then determine where what you have doesn't cut the mustard. At that point, it's worth asking for advice.
