from a photography point of view i still do ok and am still able to press the shutter with my right thumb but shutter speeds have to be fairly high or i can grip the camera with my left hand from over the top and fire the shutter that way

You got me wondering what I'd do under your circumstances. I just tried turning the camera upside down, balancing the lens with my right thumb, and pressing the shutter button with my left thumb. It works well. You'd just need to turn the photos up the right way.
