Oh yes you can.
Adobe Acrobat 9 is the current version and its basic PDF "flattened" files can be read and printed by Adobe Reader 4 and later (most users surely have this version - its been around for years - has it not) - only layers and some other advanced features cannot be replicated - see the added link below - regarding "compatability issues"
Interesting (or boring) as this may be - it is not helping the poster with his original problem - his printer's advanced setting will have to be checked - first and foremost.
