Lenses & remote triggers

Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a Nikon D3100 as my first digital SLR, and am looking for some new equipment. I currently only have the standard 18-55mm Nikkor kit lens, which has been fine so far, but I have been looking for a good all round prime lens. My friend has recently bought her first digital SLR and also bought a 50mm prime lens, and is very happy with it, though she opted for a Canon body and lens, so she cannot recommend the same to me. I have heard good things about the Nikon 50mm f1.8 G AF-S lens, and wondered what people's thoughts on this lens, and it's standing as a good all round lens. I don't want to break the bank, and I have looked at the Nikon 50mm f1.8 D AF lens, but I have heard that the autofocus doesn't work on the D3100, and as a newbie, autofocus would be quite handy for me.

I've also been looking at a few remote triggers (remote, rather than calbed/wired), but there are so many that are and aren't compatible with my D3100, so if if anyone could give me some pointers into a good and again not overly expensive remote trigger, that would be great.

Any tips/suggestions/reviews/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Pete
