Sorry, but we're still not talking the same language. My comment that I didn't want to make a splash in the world at large doesn't mean that I'm happy to leave my art static. It means that I want to move forward, but I don't care a fig what other people think, and I'm not making the effort to get my myself noticed.
If I were a professional, then that's obviously necessary. For me, it would be nothing more that egotism of the worst kind, because it would be energy expended in self glorification rather than into art.
As to idea that unless you're actively involved in self promotion you aren't into phototgraphy only talking about it - well... Who started this thread anyway? You were the one wanting to talk about photography.
i guess it depends on how determined you are & how far you want to make it in the art/photography world like if you want stake or caviar for your tea.
I don't see that this is progression in photography. Popularity isn't a measure of talent or ability, still less of lasting achievement. I do think that you should reconsider this.
