I was waiting for someone with more experience to give some input before me. If any dialogue is to be used from presenter/contributors/general public then personal mics and/or a boom mic are the way to go , which isn't really going to be possible if it's only you. A mic on the hotshoe is way too far away from the action not to mention wind and camera handling noise. If you only want general atmosphere sounds then yes a hotshoe mic will be sufficient. Any external mic will be better than on-board mics. I'm afraid I can't suggest any particular mics.
