The simplest thing to remember regarding hyperfocal distances is that from the point you focus on, from the total depth of field you will get at the selected aperture, a third in front of that point will be in focus and two thirds beyond it, hence why for landscapes the advice is to focus approximately a third of the way into the scene you're shooting using a small aperture to give yourself a huge depth of field.
