Keep on trying, stacking software is not really necessary.
Had half an hour to spare this evening so decided to photograph a refraction. No stacking just the one shot. Not at all happy with it, I've not done one for several years.
Unfortunately I had to use flash as it was getting dark and also fuchsias don't lend themselves to this type of photo, but here's the result.
