Remember that any Nikon lens will be more than adequate for your use technically. It's the photographer that really matters, not his equipment.
As you have the 18-55 optic the next most popular lens, traditionally, is the telephoto zoom. Nikon's 55-200VR is popular though has been seen in many people's eyes as a bit "down market" because of the more powerful 70-300 or the 55-300 Nikkors. I have found it to be a wonderful lens - light, sharp and small. Just handle it with due care as it has a plastic mount, the same as your 18-55.
