a 5d mk1 can be had for around £500 and for that money it's a bargain
keep an eye on the serial number the early ones suffered loose mirrors ( fixed by canon free of charge ) if you can get one of the later models ( i think the serial number starting with a 2 or 3 ) the problem was resolved by canon
there is no real way of knowing the shutter activations on a 5d mk1 so your more or less at the mercy of the seller where that is concerned but the overall condition would give you an idea if it has had heavy use or not
i have owned the mk1 and replaced it with the mk2 and the mk2 is a better camera at resolving detail it's also better for low noise at high iso settings but the question is is it worth twice the price tag ??
there both capable of excellent results the rest is just money
