For me the 60D is a gimmick camera and aimed at the holiday snapper looking for more bang. When I got a chance to use one it just felt like a toy to use and im a bit more serious about my photography then an enthusiast (in the sense that I plan to go pro and have done some paid work). While holding it I was looking for the hand strap you get on video cameras. DSLR's are best used via the view finder, it felt to me like I was using a heavy point an shoot. If I had one, live view would only be used when her indoors wishes to take a family snap with me in the frame. Less buttons are annoying (I have the 50D) and the software driven filters are another gimmick that confirms the market this camera is for.
The HD video thing on DSLR's, I can see the market and advantage in the enthusiast models but agree thats its pointless and unnecessary in semi-pro/pro models. I am one that says DSLR's are for stills and video cameras are for motion and in the semi-pro/pro range it should stay like that. Manufacturing may not cost that much more for an on-board mic, capturing chips and software but as an extra feature it does drive the price up to the consumer.
Im sure its a great camera to some but for me its a never. I plan to go from the 50D to either the 7D or 5D, budget and lens will make the choose.
