I'd suggest trying one to see how it feels. I've had them on on both my 20D and 5D MkII and the higher end DSLRs have them built in.
These are all reasons I have a grip. Sure the extra battery life is good, but the extra controls and I also have large hands.
There is another use....people think you have a "bigger" better camera with one on
