Don, Dave Wavemachine does loads of flower shots, Pea does different things with loads of selfies, if he's left it too late, Cathus is a totally different kettle of fish and photographs everyhting that crosses his path, as he says.You should have a look there and be inspired.
Maybe I haven't encouraged you enough? (I don't give technical feedback, but some nonsense remark may keep the sprit up?)
I myself have a habit of pointing the camera at things that exasparate my daughter; last time we were in Sheffield visiting her, I photographed the hotel room furniture (detail only. Someone called a 3D Mondrian, which quite pleased me), my bag and glasses on the train table, and even my drink. Most came out very nicely.
