I'm still trying to get to grips with photography in general, and cannot add much practical advice here, but ...

You have put feelers out about all sides of photography; trying to find your comfort zone/interest, whatever you call it, and decided on portraiture.

Have you actually got any experience at all with portrait photography?

Before starting with models, have you tried photographing the people around you?
Relatives, colleagues, strangers in the street?

From my housewifely, amateur point of view, this seems a good start.
