LCDs are older technology and gradually being replaced by LEDs but have been cheaper

LEDs last longer, have better contrast (and better true black) and use less power - being newer, "better", greener technology the manufacturers are concentrating their development on LED

Quality-wise I'd say that LEDs are now on par with LCDs (apart from top-end LCDs) - and I say all this as someone who has a Dell Ultrasharp LCD (which continues to give me excellent results over the years I've had it)
