Mark,

After doing much more research on the various monitors available, my next purchase will be a Dell Ultrasharp IPS panel monitor. The reason being is the viewing angle, which is 178 degrees, meaning that you get very little in the way of colour and light/dark variation like you do with TN panels, relative to head position.

Currently on my Samsung T240 (which is a few years old now), I think the viewing angle is 168 degrees and if I move my head 2" inches higher or lower, I get very noticeable changes in colour and brightness, etc. After talking to my brother-in-law who works in a major marketing/publishing house, he informed me that they all use IPS panel technology in their departments.

Have a look at the Dell U2410 amd U2412 models. They are around the £300 mark but will reward you with far greater colour accuracy, which can be crucial if you print your images.
